Step one: Screening
This is where collaboration in and out of the school is very important. Teachers will speak with parents and guardians and note any concerns they have regarding the child. Teachers will meet with the student's other teachers and ask about the child's behavior during that time. Finally, the teacher will compare notes from all of the child's teachers
Do the notes compare?
No
Try new strategies in the classroom. If that doesn't work have a follow up interview with all involved to see if they've noticed new changes or have the same concerns.
Yes
Step two: Evaluation
The student is then tested in an array of areas to determine where the student is having trouble. These results are used at the eligibility meeting. If wanted, the parents have the right for an independent evaluation. The school must pay for it.
