History and Background

Some schools around the world have already started their schools late, coming in at around 8:30 - 9:30 am.

Most schools in the 1970s started school at around 9:00 am, but gradually brought the time down to earlier hours.

Despite The American Academy of Pediatrics recommending that schools start at least at 8:30 am, most schools start around 8:00 am, especially in Canada.

Starting school earlier could result in many students having less mental problems, more results academically, and even help mood swings.

Especially because of this new coronavirus outbreak, many students are sleeping until 8:30 or even 9:00 and the sudden switch back to waking up at 7:00 could trigger mood swings.

Adolescents begin naturally falling asleep later and waking up later, so many high schools and schools have tested out ringing the morning bell later and their results have all been positive.

Schools should start later in the morning and end later in the day because not only does it give the students health benefits, it helps them academically and it helps them grow as a person emotionally.

Starting school later helps students academically and improves alertness, memory, attention, and cognitive processing skills because they are getting more sleep.
