The differences when it comes to AAC teachers is that teachers are teaching college readiness skills versus real life skills. -Aliza

Human Development Discourse
Differences
Teaching
Human Development Discourse differs from Academic Achievement Discourse for teachers because the focus becomes more about the student and individualizing learning to meet each students needs. Human Development Discourse allows teachers more freedom in the way they teach to meet student needs rather than a larger power structure forcing certain ways of teaching. It also allows teachers to place focus on other things that academics to create well rounded students. -Mason N.

It’s differs from the academic achievement discourse because it helps students focus on learning the content and gaining skills that can be applied to the real world. Moreover, it takes away the stress the students gain from preparing for a test and allows them to reflect on their learning along the way. -Tim C.

Academic Achievement Discourse (AAD) suggests that learning is encouraged with the purpose of finishing at the top; achieving something with standards derived definitions of success. Human Development Discourse (HDD) suggests that learning is much more gradual, ongoing, and fluid. Unlike AAD which sees learning as a summative answer to a question, HDD sees learning as an ongoing, formative, and constantly changing process. -Holly K.

HDD is more beneficial for MS students because it focuses on their developmental and human needs. Whereas AAD doesn't take developmental needs and preferences into account farther than adjusting content at each grade level. -Holly K.

In both discourses, teachers truly want what is best for their students. It may be that some are merely misinformed or unaware of the consequences, both positive and negative, of the discourse in which their. teaching is currently rooted. - Kortney C.
Teaching is similar to academic discourse because as human develop occurs what we are teaching stays stored in their memories. As they are growing valuable information of subjects are being installed in students. Teaching should not hinder a a students growth but help them acquire new information. For students academic achievement and human discourse is simialr because for them both are developing. Such as academically and as a person.
