Pathophysiology
Urethritis- inflammation of the urethra, caused by trauma, hypersensitivity, or microorganisms.
Cystitis- bladder inflammation, most common cause is bacterial contamination. Other risk factors include prolonged immobility, renal calculi, indwelling catheters, urinary diversion, and radiation therapy.
Interstitial cystitis- chronic inflammatory disease of the bladder. The cause is currently unknown. Patient usually suffers from severe bladder and pelvic pain and urinary frequency and urgency.
