Reported speech vs direct speech
What is reported speech
"I am hungry." Zoe said.
Direct speech speech.
We want to reported what Zoe said. Zoe said she was hungry.
Indirect speech or reported speech.
When to used reported speech
It's used to summarise what someone says.
It's used to communicate the message of what was actually said in more concise manner.
