Digestive/Urinary System - Coggle Diagram
Digestive/Urinary System
Major Functions
Digestive System- digestion and absorption
Urinary System- produces, stores and eliminates urine, the fluid waste excreted by the kidneys
Nephron
Anatomy- microscopic structural and functional unit of the kidney and is composed of a renal corpuscle and a renal tubule
Pysiology-filter the blood to make urine
Disorders
Digestive-
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) and Gastritis
Stomach Flu
Gluten Sensitivity and Celiac Disease
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Constipation
Hemorrhoids
Urinary- cancers of the urinary tract, incontinence (inability to control urine flow), interstitial cystitis, kidney stones, kidney failure, and urinary tract infections.
Major Organs
Uri.- kidneys, renal pelvis, ureters, bladder and urethra.
Dig.- the organs in the GI tract are the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus. The liver, pancreas, and gallbladder are other organs
Layers of GI Tract
underneath this is the submucosa, A loose connective tissue layer, with larger blood vessels, lymphatics, nerves, and can contain mucous secreting glands.
followed by the muscularis propria, made of two layers, the inner layer is circular, and the outer layer is longitudinal
the innermost layer is the mucosa, has epithelium then lamina proper and then the muscularis mucosa
the outermost layer is the adventitia, contains blood vessels, lymphatics and nerves
Digestive Enzymes
amylase- converts starch and glycogen into sugar
bile- fat emulsifier
bilirubin- pigment formed by heme
protease- secreted inactive form to prevent self-digestion
lipases- for lipids
amylase- for carbohydrates
Nucleases- for nucleic acid
Serotonin- sends signals between your nerve cells
Histamine- causes contraction of smooth muscle and dilation of capillaries
location of digestion and absorption
Almost all ingested food, 80 percent of electrolytes, and 90 percent of water are absorbed in the small intestine
Some chemical digestion takes place in the mouth and stomach, but most of it occurs in the first part of the small intestine
