- - - - When we use our imagination to observe the same object, the same part of the brain activates
        
        The more these neurons activate, the stronger the connections between them, creating a "neuronal ensemble"
        
        The Hebbian Principle: Neurons that fire together, wire together
        
        If you try to imagine an obect later the same neuronal ensemble will fire up, allowing the brain to form an image of it
        
        Every object a person has ever seen has its own neuronal ensemble in the brain
    - - Concious process that occurs in the prefrontal cortex which creates a new image in the brain
        
        Occurs by combining old images found in the memory
        
        If the neuronal ensembles of two separate objects are activated at the same time, the brain is capable of pairing them together, forming a new image
      - Theory: the prefrontal cortex neurons sends electrical signals down the neural fibres to several neuronal ensembles in the posterior cortex
      - Limitations: Some neurons are further away from the prefrontal cortex than others, so signals can arrive out of sync
        
        Solution: the brain can change the conduction velocity during its development.
        
        Neural fibres that have more myelin layers are able to conduct signals faster than those with thinner layers.

      - Neural fibres are wrapped by an insulating substance called myelin that can speed up electrical signals going down the fibres
