Watergate
President Nixon organized a break-in at the Watergate Hotel. He hoped to find certain documents in the office of the Democratic National Committee. However, the intruders were caught and the incident led to the discovery of political spying and conspiracy conducted by the Nixon administration. Nixon was impeached and resigned, the first president to ever do so.

Successes
Met Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev in 1974 and endorsed the Helsinki accords, which promoted human rights.
Failures
Attempted to heal country's wounds by pardoning Nixon, but actually worsened the situation.
Faced stagflation, introduced WIN, but it was ineffective
