WHAT CAUSES SLUMS TO FORM:
Slums are caused by a variety of things. It is obviously caused by International Migration to Urban areas. Predominantly in poorer countries with a GPA per capita it cannot afford to provide all the population with their beneficial needs such as sanitation, clean water to each home etc. In these countries the fertility rate is around 3-4 kids per mother and with this population increases by 2%-4% each year it is truly going to end up as a slum. As the government can't afford to take care of all these migrants they have to lower down the cost of income and wages people receive, that is why people only earn up to a $1 each day. As slums can also be a small piece of area which was proved to have all the necessities for survival, people are convinced that they can receive a better life there, this is a push factor. As urban areas are growing rapidly and rural areas slowly decreasing in population. With so many people living there it is hard not to litter. People have built up generations of litter pile upon pile that people are forced to build houses on these rubbish piles. It creates a horrible smell and often damages the sewers and water pipes. Almost 20-23 people live in one small house, and there need to be many things provided to them. They need enough clean drinking water which cannot be installed near their home because of the rubbish, clothes, food and other necessities.
