Categories of work
paid work, unpaid work, voluntary work.
Unpaid work: no financial reward. People can feel undervalued in this work and bored due to its monotony, which can affect someone's self-esteem.
Paid work: involves working for a financial reward. A person can be self employed or work for employer.
Voluntary work: working for a community or local charities e.g. St Vincent de Paul. People who work volunteering receive internal rewarding.

To enjoy a high status or identity. this gives a feeling of valued, which can enhance self esteem.
To have a form of social contact with others who have similar interests. This may lead to friendships beyond the workplace
