Student Pre-Assessment (8 year old English class: Cultural Differences…

- - - - The teacher will group students for the day's activities based on the quiz scores. Students who scored 100% will be placed in group A. Students who scored 80-90% will be placed in group B. Students who scored 70% or less will be placed in group C.
        
        Group B showed a pretty good overall understanding of the material for today's lesson. However, the teacher would like them to reach 100% confidence and understanding. These students will be grouped together and given an in-class project to work on that will help them review and further learn the material while also providing an engaging independent challenge.
        
        Students in group B will be asked to make a visual chart or mind-map of cultural similarities or differences. These students will be given several stories and videos to work off of.
        
        Group C showed a struggle with understanding general concepts of the material. These students will spend time as a group with the teacher reviewing key concepts, vocabulary, or other difficulties students may have.
        
        Students will begin by completing a KWL. The teacher will begin with an oral explanation of the material. Students are given direct questions as well as the opportunity to ask the teacher for further clarification.
        
        Students will practice oral repetition of vocabulary alongside flashcards. Students will then pair off and review these flashcards with their partners.
        
        Students will be re-assessed with a brief quiz similar to the first quiz.

        Students in group A were able to show a complete understanding of materials covered in class. They will be placed in a group that focuses on more challenging materials. Their work will focus on a collaborative challenge as well as how this unit applies to them.
        
        Group A will be asked to create a play in which cultural differences may cause difficulties for someone traveling abroad. They will provide the case of trouble, possible outcomes, and ways to avoid these situations.
      - Alternatively, students may have the option to do turn and talk. During this time, the subect will be written on the board and students will turn and share or ask questions to their neighbor.
