I am going to based this on them being Spanish speakers as I live and work in Spain. These students would get the work sheets in Spanish.

Assessment: Given that I speak Spanish I could assess this work in Spanish. I could have the student answer two questions in Spanish and one in English. Or give me an answer to one of the questions in both languages.

Top 5 Students
These would be group together and complete the same worksheet that the other small groups. They would be asked to think about what questions could be asked to determine what happened.
Students would be given more options and could be exempted from check-in quizzes, given extra readings.
