Plastic (we started to use this about a hundred years ago)
Thermoplastics (you can heat them manytimes and you can change their shape

Features:it'a hard and durable and it doesen't conduct electricity
Purposes:food companies often use it for boxes and packets
Thermoset plastic
Features:it's hard and strong,but breaks easly,it doesen't conduct electricity
Purposes:it's used for electric plugs and some bathroom and kitchen aplliances
Wood (people used it to make things for thousands of yeras)
Hardwood
Features:it's strong and tougher more than softwood,it's expensive
Purposes:it's often used in high quality furniture and sports equipment
It comes from:trees which grow slowly
Softwood
It comes from:conifer trees
Features:it's strong and tough,it doesen't conduct electricity,it's quite cheap
Purposes:it's used in buildings (for example in floors and doors),it is used to make paper
Metals
Alloys (becuase they contain more than one metal
Stainless steel
Purposes:it's used for a lt of kithen utensils and i the car indusry
Features:it contains iron,chromium and carbon,it's hard,tough and very durable,it doesen't conduct electricity
Ferrous (because they contain iron)
Non-ferrous (because they don't contain iron)
Alluminium
Features:it's durable and it conducts heat very well
Purposes:it's used in planes and mall boats

Ceramics
Are hard and durable,but they aren't malleable or conductive,resist high temperatures
They are often used in the kitchen
The first ceramics were used over 20.000 years ago when people made utensils from clay
