Annemarie and Ellen were frightened about what had happened. But, the comment of Annemarie's dad make them feel that only for a moment the fear was eased. (Eased:to make or become less severe, difficult, unpleasant, painful, etc. )
They have to take the girls to Henrik's. Annemarie's dad suggested that he could accompian his wife to Henrik's but she disagreeded. Annemarie says that it was seldom that her mom disagreed with something with his dad.
(Seldom:almost never)
When Annemarie´s mama smell the air, they described like a breezy and cool.
(Breezy:with wind that is quite strong but pleasant )
Kirsty complained that she does not saw any tree, and wriggled to her knees.
(Wriggled:to twist your body, or move part of your body, with small, quick movements)
Annemarie describes his uncle as a cheerful, suntanned, and unmarried person that she loved.
(Suntanned: having pleasantly brown skin caused by being in hot sun)
When taking the decision that his wife would take them alone, he nodded reluctantly.
(Reluctantly:in a way that shows that you are not willing to do something and are therefore slow to do it )
Annemarie's dad didn't let the girls go to school because of safety, when he thought of this, he rubbed his chin.
(Rubbed: to press or be pressed against something with a circular or up-and-down repeated movement)
When going with her uncle, the train stopped and the soldiers strolled it.
(Strolled: to walk in a slow relaxed way, especially for pleasure)
The conversation between Annemarie´s mother and her uncle was puzzling.
(Puzzling:difficult to explain or understand)
Obviously Elles doesn´t know about who is Henrik. It its Annemarie uncle, brother of his mama, and he is a fisherman. When Ellen asked about it Annemarie said that she will love that place and that she can stand at the edge of the meadow and look across Sweden.
(Meadow:a field with grass and often wild flowers in it )
Annemarie’s mother always missed and teased her brother and when she see him she was very closed to him.
(Teased: to laugh at someone or say unkind things about them, either because you are joking or because you want to upset that person)
Ellen let the kitten go and it darted away and disappeared into the tall grass.
(Darted:a small, thin object with a sharp point that is thrown by hand in a game, shot from a gun, or blown from a tube when used as a weapon)
Ellen found that place so beautiful that with a awe tone of voice said to Annemarie “It is beautiful”
(Awe: a feeling of great respect sometimes mixed with fear or surprise)
The meadow ended at the sea and the gray water licked.
(Licked:to move the tongue across the surface of something)
When Annemarie told Ellen that maybe the leaf could have cross the ocean and maybe it became from Sweden, Ellen cupped one hand over her eyes and looked across the water.
(Cupped: to put the hands together and make a shell)
Ellen took the kitten to the house and lay purring in her arms as she stroked it´s small head and talked to it softly.
(Stroked:a sudden change in the blood supply to a part of the brain, sometimes causing a loss of the ability to move particular parts of the body)
When the girls saw the cat, that was pouncing “here and there”
(Pouncing:to jump or move quickly in order to catch or take hold of something)
The flowers and birds faded, had been stitched onto the quilt by Annemarie’s grandmother.
(Stitched:a piece of thread sewn in cloth, or the single movement of a needle and thread into and out of the cloth that produces this)
In town, in a harbor, there’s a big dock where all the fishing boats go and come from there. There is where they unload their fish.
(Unload: to remove the contents of something, especially a load of goods from a vehicle, the bullets from a gun or the film from a camera)
