How Sound travels to the Ear
External Ear
The External ear consists of all structure that face the outside.
It travels to the external acoustic meatus.
The sound waves cause the tympanic membrane to vibrate.
Inner Ear
The Inner ear is a complex system of intercommunicating chambers and tube called labyrinth.
The cochlea is a shaped snail shell, and its's full of perilymph.
Organ of corti contains about 16,000 hearing receptor cells.
Auditory Nerve pathways to the Brain
The cochlear branches of the vestibulocohlear nerves enter the auditory nerve pathways.
They pass into the auditory cortices of the temporal lobes of the cerebrum.
One of the fibers cross over so that impulses arising from each ear are interpreted on both sides of brain.
