Should zoos and aquariums exist?
Hook
We make homes for the animals, why should we take them out? Don't us people say ourselves, "There is no place like home"
Imagine you are at home, and people serve you all day every day. People pay to just to look at you, they love you for who you are. Then one day others come and kick you out of your home and say you are free and to rejoice. Would you thank them, or curse them?
"The smallest changes can upset them, They just want things to be so, week after week, month, after month. Surprises are highly disagreeable to them." - Life of Pi
History and Background
Zoos first began in egyptian times, while aqauriames first began in the 1800s.
The first zoos and aquariums were to examine animal behaviour and anatomy, never to make a profit. They made sure that the animals were safe.
In the next stage, they rescued wounded animals from things like poachers and helped them get better. The really wounded ones would stay in the zoo.
Nowadays, they rescue, help, and protect all sorts of animals.
Special Info
Without zoos and aquariums, many animals would be extinct by now.
Zoos and aquariums can make animals happier, as they are more comfortable
Zoos and aquariums are our response to harmful treatment from others such as poachers.
If an animal did not like a zoo, they would show aggressive and rough behaviour, forcing the keepers to let it go.
Arguments
Argument 1, it helps people (especially young ones) learn about animals, and their endangerment.
Can help them think for future jobs
Could play a vital role in a career choice
Supports a better future
Raises awareness of climate change, pollution, etc.
Simply seeing animals encourages them to help the environment
May fundraise for environment
Can learn and experience from zookeepers
May care for animals more.
Could grow up to be a zookeeper
Argument 2, many animals would be extinct by now if it weren't for zoos and aquariums
Animals saved from extinction
Gray wolf
Vaquitas
Grizzly Bears
Gray whale
Sea lions
When unlucky, endangered animals don't bread in the wild.
Which leads to us repopulating the animals
When populated enough, releases back into wild
It's not like we are treating them harshly, and we train them for when they go back into the wild.
We make sure they don't get used to the zoo life
We teach them how to survive better so they don't get endangered again.
Argument 3, Some of the animals are injured or have some sort of disability. This leads to us healing and helping them in zoos.
Does not the Bible say to love all creatures big and small? To care for those who you may not be close to? Adam and Eve were put in the garden to care for the animals
They had to name and help the animals.
Just like zoos, they did not put them in a harsh habitat
This connects to argument 1 and 2, it helps us learn how to prevent injuries and things like poaching and climate change.
Some people might say that it's wrong to help the animals as they can naturally help themselves. I say they are wrong because the animals would have to suffer through the pain, before helping themselves
The creature may die before it can help itself
It can't survive properly without human help
Thesis statement
Some animals require human help because of pollution, them getting injured, climate change, poaching, etc.
The money that zoos and aquriames collect is so the animals can have a good experience, and be treated nicely
