Goals of Analysis
What do we expect it to produce now?
What was in the zone when the well was logged?
First need to determine Rw
Gather at wellhead fluid separator
Swab sample. In hind sight we should have caught, cataloged and stored a sample from every swab.
Rw catalog (already ordered)
Log analysis of wet Zone
Always sense check this against other wells. Should not be drastically different. (unless major effects of injection of non production water
Archie's or Shale-Adjusted Archies
Frio Sands are clean enough for simple Archie's
Compare Sw to Swi
Detailed core analysis
Sw=Swi -> Hydrocarbon Production
Sw > Swi -> Expect immediate water production
Sw>>Swi -> Expect 100% water production
Oil or gas
No Porosity Logs?
Spot check with Core analysis
Data from direct offset wells
Old Saying: No porosity, no analysis
Fieldwide Core Porosity to Permeability Correlation
Zone-specific porosity vs perm correlation
Use offset test data to calculate a PI and a calculate perm from that
What has changed since the well was logged?
Drainage ( decreased SBHP)
This can be a rabbithole. If you know there has been production since the log was run, you can use that production and material balance to calculate an estimated pressure drop. Unfortunately, this requires determining a lot of variables from material balance from a previous production period and pressure change
Use offset production to track the change in the rise of the OWC
Will we produce differently than they have in the past?
What/How would it have produced at that time?
Compare log to offset producers
Static Bottomhole Pressure (RFT)
Assume abandonment pressure and drainage area
Decline curve analysis of offsetproducers
