Cannot respond to simple, direct questions: Struggles to connect with her brother as he wonders where his sister is. She finds difficulty in sending him signs that she is watching over him.

Can monitor her progress and adjust her actions to make sure she achieves what she want's: Determined to be queen of high school, not only by having the ideal body but also by overtaking everyone with kindness.

Cannot evaluate the credibility of sources of information: Knows that she should go home instead of continuing on with Mr. Harvey but curiosity overtakes her conscience when she is presented with the interesting den he built in the ground.

Can describe her family and community: Continues to stay connected to her family while in heaven by closely watching over them and reflecting on her past experiences.

Cannot tell what is important to her: Wishes her father would become violently enraged after his encounter with Mr. Harvey, although she actually just wants to ensure her father is okay and will find answers regarding his daughters death.

Recognizes there are different points of view and can disagree respectfully: Is aware that her neighborhood views Mr. Harvey as strange or odd, but rather chooses to feel sorry for him.

Can get new ideas or build on other people’s ideas: Is resourceful of the broken glass which resulted from her father's anger by using it to show him a sign that she is there watching over him.

Does not have deliberate strategies for quieting her conscious mind: Cannot come to terms with her death because her mind is too focused on worrying about her family and their well-being.

Can participate in activities that support her well-being, & tell/show how they help her: Engages in community activities in heaven such as playing with the dogs and listening to music to ensure her happiness.

Cannot persevere with challenging tasks: Struggles to come to terms with her death by preventing herself from missing her mother, father, brother, and sister to the extent she misses her dog.

Can solve problems by herself and identify when to ask for help: Identified that she needed to find help when her younger brother was choking and illegally drove to the hospital to save him.

Is not always aware of how others may feel: Assumed Ruth was just the weird girl at her school until one day she had a conversation with her and learned that Ruth is truly full of talent
