Contact Forces
Pull
Example: A pull force is the opposite of a push because you pull the object towards you. We commonly use a pull force when we open a door and pull our shoes on.
Observation: An observation of a pull experiment was when we used the friction blocks and measured how much weight the spring balance could hold. In the experiment you need to use a friction block and put 50g weights on top. With the spring balance you need to see how much weight it can hold.

Friction
Observation: An observation of a friction experiment was rubbing a balloon on someones head. This experiment is an example of friction because you rub the balloon on their head and lift it up and their hair should stick to the balloon.
Explanation: A friction in the motion of one object moving relative to another. Scientists believe that it is the attraction of two charged particles rubbing together.

Example: A force that twists something is also known as a torsion. A twist force is something that uses pressure and force to move it around in a circle. A commonly known twist force is twisting the lid of a bottle.
Twist
Observation: An observation of a twist experiment is when you twist a metal chain on a swing and then let it go and the swing spins in the opposite direction and the chain un-tangles.

Push
Observation: An observation of a push experiment was when we blew a ping pong ball with a straw and saw how far we could blow it.
A push force is a force that pushes something away from something, for example when you push your bedroom door open. Push and pull are the opposite of each other.

Normal
Explanation: A normal force is a surface of a table or floor that stops an object from moving or falling off the it.

Observation: An observation is a glass sitting on a table. The normal force causes the glass to not move.

Gravity
Explanation: Gravity is a force that tries to pull two objects toward each other. The Earth's gravity is what keeps a person on the ground and is what causes objects to fall.

Observation: An observation of gravity is in our catapults when we fling a ping pong ball and the ball falls to the ground.
