1.2.3 Molar Volume - Coggle Diagram
1.2.3 Molar Volume
relationship between moles of gas, volume of gas and molar volume of gas
amount of gas (moles) = volume of gas/ molar volume
volume of gas = amount of gas x molar mass
mass = amount of mass (moles) x molar mass
STP
P = standard pressure: 1 atm
T = standard temperature: 273 K
Standard temperature & pressure
Example: volume of gas to moles of gas
200 cm^3 of carbon dioxide
n = 200/24000
n = 8.33 x 10^-3 mol (3 sf)
Example: moles of gas to volumes of gas
0.100 moles of ammonia
v = 0.100 x 24000
v = 2.40 x 10^3 cm^3 (3 sf)
Example: volumes of gas to mass of gas
200 cm^3 of carbon dioxide
m (g) = 0.00833 x 44.01
3.67 x 10^-1 g (3 sf)
Molar volume of gas
the volume occupied by one mole of a gas substance at a given temperature and pressure.
