SENSORY ORGANS AND SYSTEM - Coggle Diagram
SENSORY ORGANS AND SYSTEM
TYPE OF SENSORY RECEPTORS
Type of stimulus
mechanoreceptors
thermoreceptors
photoreceptors
chemoreceptors
nociceptors
Location of the body
exteroceptors - respond to stimuli outside body
interoceptors - stimuli inside the body
proprioceptors - stimuli in skeletal muscle and connective tissue
Structure
nonencapsulated & encapsulated nerve endings
lamellar & bulbous corpuscles
muscles plinders
tendons organs & joint kinesthetic receptors
THE SENSES
EYE
Eyelid - cover and protect the eyes for reflextive blinking and keeps eyes moist
eyebrow - prevents sweat to trinkling to eyes
eyelashes - trigger reflex blinking
NOSE
chemoreceptors - for sensing
volatile substance - easily evaporated
TOUNGE
Allows preception to taste
approx 10,000 taste buds are found in papille
structure
fungiform papilla
filiform papila
foliate popila
EAR
Coclea
scala vestibuli
scala media
scala tympani
STRUCTURE OF NERVES
Spinal nerve
epineurium
perinuerium
fascicle
nerves fibres
endoneurium
blood vessels
TYPES OF NERVES
Mixed nerve - both sensory and motor neurons
transmit impulses to and from the CNS
sensory nerves
contain sensory neurons
transmit impulses to CNS
