French Revolution: Caused by oppression and taxation, King Louis XVI finally realized the financial problem needed to be addressed and started taxing the nobility, who refused, Estates General (Meeting of the three different Estates, no solution because two of the Estates were exempt from taxes-> didn’t want to change, Third Estate was largest and represented many lower-class citizens), National Assembly (Third Estate revolted and declared themselves their own country, called the National Assembly, Members from first and second estates switched sides and joined the Nation Assembly, Inspired citizens to revolt, biggest protest being the storming of the Bastille, Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, Rifts within the National Assembly grew, leading to a split and a new country forming), Reign of Terror ( National Convention overthrew the monarchy and made France a republic, Wars with Austria and Prussia had bad results, so they conscripted new people, Economy looked up for awhile, but then the leader went crazy and executed over 15,000 people), general named Napoleon realized how weak the French government was and took over, declaring himself king and effectively ending the war
