Pupils' attitudes, perceptions and understanding: Northern Irish and English schools
Looked at the attitudes, perceptions and understanding of primary school children aged 8 -11
Data was collected via approximately 1,000 questionnaires
Data analysed using t-test, analysis of variance and correlation analysis
-
Findings
Younger children more positive than older children, showing enthusiasm is already starting to decline by the end of primary school education
Older children said they did too much writing, possibly explaining the enthusiasm decline
All children enjoy experiments, regardless of age, gender or ability / they were fun, enabled better understanding and aided memory
-
Found some topics difficult: flowers / forces / evaporation / electricity --> a lot of information to take in and long, difficult words to remember
