The Motherboard
-
-
GPU
-
-
-
For better graphics, a certain dedicated GPU is needed. Expensive.
-
-
Cache
Very fast memory in the CPU, but slower than registers and faster than RAM
-
-
There are 3 levels for cache. L1 is the quickest but lowest capacity, L3 is the slowest but can hold the most, and L2 is in between L1 and L3
Virtual Memory
If RAM is full, it is stored in here
Used when there are too many applications or files, or if a very high memory-hungry program is being used
CPU reads data stored in virtual memory, making transfer rates slower
-
Clock Speed
-
The higher the clock speed, the greater number of instructions that can be carried out
Some CPU's can be overclocked. This is because they rum at a higher clock speed than the factory set rate
-
Cores
-
Each core in a CPU can process data by itself, so lots of data can be processed at once
The more cores the CPU has, the more instructions it can carry out at once
