The Responsible Consumer
Be aware of the consumer agencies that can help and support them if they have a problem.
Always purchase goods and services from reliable and trustworthy retailers.
Know and understand their consumer rights.
Understand when they have a valid complaint and are entitled to some form of redress and when they do not.
Consumer Rights
The goods we receive should be the same as those that were described to us,
The goods we receive should be the same as any sample we were shown.
The goods we are sold should be fit for purpose intended by the buyer
Any service we purchase, should be careried out by someone with necessary skills.
The items we are sold should be good quality
Redress
If a consumer purchase faulty goods, they can choose to get a refund, replacement or repair
They are not entitlred to redress if:
They do not return the item within a reasonable period of time
They simply changed their mind and no longer want the item.
They caused the fault themselves through misuse or accient.
Retailer
They must always act fairly, tell the truth, and never say anything that might fool or mislead the consumer
If an item price is reduced, they can only mention the higher price in an advertisment if they actually sold the product or service at a higher price
