An example of predation in the Eastern African Grasslands is the Lion and the Zebra. The zebra is a common prey of its predator, the Lion.
1. Hypothetically, if the lion were to be extracted from the grasslands, the populations of the zebra would see a large increase and hence, the grass would become over grazed and there would be a huge loss in the population of grass species. Furthermore this would make it inhabitable for other animals that rely on the rich grassy environment as their food source and habitat.
2. Hypothetically if the zebras were to be removed from the grasslands the lions would have a deficit of food and would either starve and the lion population would begin to shrink, or they would be in search for new prey, i.e. buffalo and antelope and begin to over predate those species. As well as this the grass of the grasslands would become over grown and course, changing the habitat other organisms within this ecosystem.
Hence, Lions act a limiting Factor to the Zebra, preventing and excess growth in the Zebra population
