Cells - Coggle Diagram
Cells
Main parts of most cells
Cell membrane
A thin, tough wall that surrounds the cell
Allows entrance to useful substances
Blocks entry of harmful substances
Forces out waste products
Citoplasm
Composed mainly of water
Most of the cell's work happens here
Organelles are located within the citoplasm
They make important substances (proteins)
These are used in most of the cell's
chemical processes
Others change food molecules into materials needed for growth and energy
Nucleus
Located near the center of the cell
Is the ''control center'' of the cell
It regulates the cell's growth and reproduction
Contains structures called chromosomes
They contain the genes of the cell, which determine its caracteristics
These pass the cell's traits when it copies itself
Are the make-up of all living things
Organisms that consist of only one cell (unicellular)
Organisms that are composed of many cells (multicellular)
Are the object of study of branch of biology
The smallest unit with basic properties of life
Cells can have different shapes (disk, pillars, cubes, etc.)
