FORCES :, Twist - Coggle Diagram
FORCES :
Non-Contact forces
Gravity
Definition - The force that pulls us all down and keeps us walking on the earth or any other place that has gravity.
An example - When you put a tennis ball on a slope gravity pulls it down the slope and it goes faster the further it goes down
-
-
Electrostatic
Definition - Electrostatic energy could also be called Coulomb force. It is when the force either attracts or repels between two electrically charged objects.
An example - when you rub a piece of fabric against a balloon and then put it near someones hair the hair would rise up to the balloon because of electrostatic.
-
Magnetism
-
An example - When you put nails and sand in a container and put a magnet over the top of it the magnets are attracted to the magnet and come out of the sand. This is and example of magnetism.
-
-
Four Fundamental Forces - The four fundamental forces are gravitation, electromagnetism, the weak interaction and the strong interaction.
Contact forces
Push
-
-
An example - when you blow a ping pong ball across the table with a straw you are pushing the ping pong ball with air force or push.
hitting a ball - the factors that might affect how far a ball goes when it is hit with a bat might be
- What materials the bat is made out of
- the materials the ball is made out of
- how heavy the ball is
- how heavy the bat is
- who hits the ball
- what weather it is (e.g. windy, rainy)
- whether there is any other forces acting on the ball
Mechanical system using a push force - An example of a mechanical system using a push force is a car jack. The item pushes one end of the car up so that a person can get underneath the car.
Non-contact push force - An example of a non-contact push force is a leaf blower. The machine pushes away leaves or other small objects from the spot you are pointing the air to. It is the forced air that pushes away the leafs so there are other examples of air pushing away things such as a gust of wind and someone blowing into a straw.
Normal
Definition - A normal force is when to solid objects touch each other. This prevents solid objects from passing through each other
An example - when you walk on the ground this creates a normal force because two solid surfaces are touching each other. Most of the time when there is a gravity force active there will also be a normal force.
-
Friction
Friction is the force that hold things back. When two objects are touching each other they cause friction.
-
-
Pull
-
-
An example - When you pull a door open you are pulling something though it might not feel like a lot of work.
Non- contact pull force - some examples are gravity and magnetism but they may just be other forces so another example of a non - contact pull force is when you use a vacuum-cleaner or air/water though a paper straw. The air sucks up/pulls whatever is in front of it but doesn't touch it. This is an example of a non-contact pull force.
-
Push force into a pull force - I reckon that you can turn a push force into a pull force into a pull force. An example of this is when you tie a piece of string to your wobbly tooth and a door knob. You push the door and the push gets converted into a pull by pulling your tooth out.
-
Unbalanced Forces
Definition - this is where two or more forces are pulling/pushing on an object but one is a greater force so it moves in the way the force is moving it
Twist
-
-
An Example - An example of someone twisting something is when you are opening a jar. When you open a jar the lid you twist the lid either away or towards you to open or close the jar.
-
A mechanical system using a twist force - A simple example of this is screw a nail into something will a screwdriver or an electric screwdriver. You put the nail in place then using a screw driver TWIST the screw in.
