Non-contact forces
GRAVITY
A fact about Gravity is that objects with mass are attracted to each other
-
If you drop a ball, the ball and the ground will be attracted to each other.
Gravity is what pulls everything to the ground. Without the force of gravity there would be no life. It doesn't matter how heavy an object is, if it is a apple or a bowling ball. If you let go of the object it will fall down to the ground.
Whatever goes up, must come down.
electrostatic
Electrostatic can happen when a object has a net amount of positive or negative electric charge.
Electrostatic is a buildup of charge on the surface of objects due to contact of other surfaces.
When a balloon is rubbed on the top of someones hair, the hair will stick up. That is called Electrostatic.
Magnetism.
-
A Magnetism can be observed on a compass needle. the needle is a thin piece of iron that has been magnetized.
Magnetism can be made by a permanent magnet or by electricity in a wire. when a magnet and other object is pulled together, this is called magnetic attraction.
Contact forces
PUSH
If you are moving house cleaning your room, redoing your room you will push furniture to a different spot, moving stuff out of the back of a truck
You push your way through a crowd, pushing to get the football
Pushing a chair in when you are leaving a room, pushing a broom or vacuum
-
-
-
PULL
You can pull out a chair form under the table, when you are vacuuming you can do both pull and push because you go back and forth when you are vacuuming
You can pull an object out from something, pull your cloths out from your wardrobe.
-
-
Pulling is when you are pulling towards you. So if you were playing tug-of war you would be pulling the rope towards you.
FRICTION
When you are cold you will sometimes rub your hands together to warm up your hands.
-
Friction is a force that are between two objects that are trying to slide. this friction depends on the materials from each object. Friction is useful so you don't slip over.
-
-
When you slide on the floor with socks there is low friction, when you have no socks on there is higher friction.
TWIST
Twist a jar open to get your jam, Vegemite, and more types of food.
If you have a drink bottle you will tend to twist the lid to open the bottle
