Friction is the resistance of motion when one object rubs against another. When one object is sliding on another it starts to slow down due to friction.

an example of friction is Rubbing both hands together to create heat or a not being able to push a couch because of weight and friction or a bow slowing down after falling down a hill. these are all examples of friction

While walking on a ground you are applying normal force on a ground, and when you place a book on a table the opposite force is the normal force
