Contact Forces
Pull
-
-
An example of a pull force, is to pull a basket towards yourself. A pull action is towards your body.
-
Yes you can convert a push force into a pull force because you can push something away from you and then pull it towards you.
-
Twist
-
An example of a twist force, is to twist a jar lid open, twisting it the opposite way to close it.
Yes you can convert a push force into a twist force because you can push Plasticine and then twist it.
-
One of the examples of a mechanical force that uses a twist system is an industrial mining drill used in the mines.
-
Friction
Friction is the resistance to motion of one object moving relative to another. It is the result of electromagnetic attraction between charged parciples in two touching surfaces. Friction is not a fundamental force like gravity or electromagnetism.
When you twist and turn on a skateboard, the force of friction is helping you. Friction slows down movement when two objects rub against each other.
-
-
If you drag a wooden block across the ground there will be friction, but if you add weight on top of the wooden block there will be more friction because there is more weight of the block.
-
-
Normal
A definition of a neutral force is gravity pulling something down to earth but the resistance of the object that is keeping something from going down is stopping it from going down.
An example of a normal force would be someone standing on the ground, and gravity pulling someone down to the ground, but the resistance is keeping them above the ground.
An example on a normal force is a cup on a bench top, gravity is pulling the cup down but the resistance of the bench top is stopping the cup from going into the bench top.

Push
-
-
An example of a push force would be, to push a box across the room. A push force of away from your body.
-
-
Yes a pull force can be a non-contact force because gravity pulls things towards earth but it doesn't touch you.
-
Non Contact Forces
-
Magnetism
Another example is if you hold two batteries with one + side facing a side with the - they will go toward each other because they attract each other.
For example if you hold two batteries with the + sides next to each other they will repel against each other because they are like charges.
-
Like charges repel each other. For example if you hold two batteries with the + sides next to each other they will repel against each other.
Magnetism forces are attractive or repulsive forces between particles that are caused by their electric charges.
Electostatics
-
-
-
If you rub your hair on a balloon your hair will stick up in the air because of the electromagnetic charges between your hair and the balloon.
