What was your reason for purchasing the Upright Go Product
-
I wanted to improve my posture. I've tried straps before, but those were time consuming to put on and didn't really do it for me. I purchased the Upright Go because it would automatically track and let me know when my posture wasn't correct.
I have terrible posture and I have done for years, since I was a teenager and I’m now 27. I slouch at my desk and need better posture whilst riding my horse. I bought the upright go 2 because I saw a sponsored ad on Instagram (my phone was obviously listening to me constantly moan about back ache that it decided to show me a solution! )
-
I wanted to see how good tech could be in helping people improve their posture during the average work day. I also really liked the sleek and compacted design.
Had seen it advertised somewhere, much better idea than a traditional back brace type contraption
I experience chronic lower back pain/immobility. I’ve tried “it all” to alleviate the discomfort until I saw the Upright GO.
Did you do research into other wearables out there for posture and if so can you remember what they were called?
-
-
Did research into straps but didn't like it didn't teach you. Also it would be comfortable to wear why trying to look professional in work.
I didn’t do research into others besides the upright go, I just saw upright go add on Instagram and thought I would be interested.
I did research other brands but to be honest I can’t remember what they are called. Also the UPRIGHT GO was a good alternative to the posture harnesses on the market, I did not want to buy one of them.
No, this does exactly what I need
-
Can you talk me through a detailed day of how you use the product? (How you put it on?, any settings you have to change or calibrate? Do you need to take it off certain times of the day?)
You can choose to stick it on or wear a necklace. She chose to stick it on. You have to train for 10 mins a day. " The one day I forgot to turn off the "train" mode and i was actually getting rather annoyed at how often it was buzzing at me. I don't like that the product cant tell whether youre bent over or not"
When I wake up and start my work day, I put attach the Upright to my back and take it off after 8 hours. I do a one time click on the product, go to the app on my phone and set my posture and then carry on with my day.Sometimes I set the tracking to 'training' so it vibrates when i'm out of posture. sometimes i will set the tracking to 'tracking' when i want to go off the training mode.
I shower, dry and then stick it on before my vest and cardigan in the mornings before work. I can usually get two days wear out of one sticky pad and then have to peel it off and put a new one on. I connect it to the app on my phone and stand in the position I feel I’m not slouching in and then I calibrate it by pressing the button on the app. You can change settings if you want to have more movement which is really useful as when I’m sat at my desk I want to be upright but moving around the office I don’t want to be so regimented. I try not to take it off until bed time and then charge it if it needs it. I tried wearing it riding but if you get too sweaty the sticky tabs don’t hold it onto you! I saw that they have brought out a necklace accessory so it rests on your back rather than sticks but not too keen on that idea. I like that it’s stuck there and out of the way and out of mind until it vibrates and reminds me to hold myself better!
When I used to use it I would put it on for a time when I was going to sit at my computer for an extended time. I tried to charge it through the night. It was easy to put on, very quick to calibrate but almost too quick, makes me wonder how accurate it could be. I took it off when I was going to be active or when I knew I was going to bend over because the vibrating would just be too annoying
The instructions only recommended a short period of ‘training’ a day, maybe 10-15 minutes. I noticed that it did drain my battery quite a bit when using it.I would use the adhesives to stick it on my back, sometimes my partner would have to help me in case I didn’t get it right in the centre. It’s really easy to calibrate with your iPhone, and the app is really easy and clean to use.
I bought it specifically for riding, & walking dog. I bought the necklace to go with it as didn’t want to stick the item to my back
I haven’t worn it in months. But, when I gave it a good, solid go I just applied it to the same recommended spot with the adhesive. I have the necklace too but it’s ugly and Felt like a sloppy “fit” when I used the necklace. Had to recalibrate multiple times a day, not just daily. That was part of my dissatisfaction. I’ve to take it off to exercise. Shower.
How do you think the Upright Go product has affected your daily life?
-
I've only started using the product, but there has not been any major changes yet. It doesn't really disrupt my daily life. Makes me more aware of my posture and is discreet enough to not make things look weird.
It’s made me consciously think about my posture and helped my sciatica because I’m not slouching at my desk! It’s made me more confident feeling like I’m walking taller and straighter.
At this point it doesn’t affect me anymore cause I don’t wear it! But when I did wear it made me very aware of my posture and I enjoyed it. But I wouldn’t say it helped my pain because I didn’t wear it enough
It was pretty fun to use at first, but to be honest the novelty did wear off after a while. Yes, it’s good in helping to develop better posture habits when sitting but after a while the data didn’t really appeal to me anymore. I could obviously try and wear the device longer during the day but I did get bored with it.
Haven’t tried it thoroughly at mo as haven’t been riding. For walking dog it’s made me more aware of my forward lean.
It has solely made me more conscious of my posture but certainly didn’t alleviate my back pain. It wasn’t a “game changer” device. I don’t sit at a desk. I’m a stay at home mother to three children (2 with special needs) so I’m always on my feet and bending over and moving around. I had a hard time finding a sweet spot for the device for my lifestyle. My husband found it totally annoying and disturbing. I didn’t mind the haptics at all.
What are the pros and cons of the product? (Try to explain in detail WHY)
Pros: inexpensive, easy-to-use and maintain, and very user friendly.
Cons: it's actually very easy to forget it was there and i wasn't more inclined to focus on my posture simply because i know the product is monitoring me.
Pros: super sleek, discreet, easy to use. the set up was so quick and easy. has a tracking app. sometimes i forget its even there. necklace attachment is nice when i don't want to use an adhesive, and the necklace is fashionable and functional enough to be ok. Cons: it's actually very easy to forget it was there and i wasn't more inclined to focus on my posture simply because i know the product is monitoring me.
Pros: It’s small - it doesn’t show through clothing and you genuinely forget it’s there!! Also you can carry it in your handbag in the little case it comes in. Which is great if you want to take it off mid day, you have somewhere to store it.The battery lasts a few days so you’re not constantly having to charge it.It is making you correct your posture mentally which helps quicker than if a strap was forcing your shoulders back. You can adjust the settings so that you have more or less movement and how many seconds you can slouch for before it vibrates ! You can also track your posture without the vibrations and see when you do slouch and how long for. Good to be able to test yourself before taking it off and trying to keep your posture without wearing it!
It does actually help you improve your posture if you stick to it and want to help yourself. A lot of perseverance is needed because boy does it hurt for the first few weeks of sitting straight and walking straight when your muscles aren’t used to it!!! (I think that’s putting me off using it again if I’m honest, because I know it’s going to hurt but that means it’s working. - I ran out of sticky pads just after Christmas and didn’t have enough money to buy them until February mid month and still haven’t put it back on, I just need to make it part of my routine again!)
Cons: Ergggghhhh ma lorddd when your hair is down and gets stuck to the sticky tab that is poking out the top of the device. Hurts so much! I tried putting the device lower on my back but I couldn’t comfortably reach lower to stick it on straight and I needed it nearer the top as that’s where I slouch the most. I don’t like wearing my hair in a pony tail so it’s a bit frustrating !
If you sweat the sticky tab is useless. It means you only get one days use out of the tab before having to put another on. Don’t get me wrong the tabs aren’t costing the earth to buy but I like the satisfaction of keeping one on for as long as possible and getting my money’s worth!
They send push through app notifications all the time. (I haven’t worn mine for a few months now but I still get the notification ping up to say “well done you’ve completed another week!” :S only positive of that is it reminds me that I own one and should start to re-use it!!!) con is it doesn’t feel personally anymore as it makes you realise everyone must get that notification ping up! I have set a notification to come through at 9:15 to remind me to wear it through the app and haven’t turned it off.
Pros: Well designed, easy to use, reasonably price. Cons: Not much of an active online community (maybe I would have used it moe if I felt I was part of something bigger).App drains battery. Notifications just got boring after a while, and I switched them off. Compared to a FitBit or AppleWatch, the data it presented didn’t really mean much after a while. Yes I spent a certain amount of time sitting in a good posture, but that’s only for a short period of the day.
Pros: Small & lightweight, charge lasts for ages. Cons: Not wanting to stick it to my back so bought the accompanying necklace (extra cost)
Pros- it was very sensitive so it knew instantly when I was slouching even a little bit. Cons- the vibrating got annoying at times and eventually for me it stopped connecting and I lost interest
Pros: price ... it’s not silly expensive. Size... you don’t even know it’s in until it buzzes. App was user-friendly. Cons: A setting that worked with my bending over helping kids, washing dishes, doing laundry lifestyle. Necklace: bulky and ugly. Adhesive: couldn’t withstand any moisture. Settings: Had a hard time finding
How does the product feel? Before and after applying it to your body.
I tend to have sensitive skin, especially with glues and pastes, so i did notice an itchy patch where the product was a few days after wearing it. However the necklace option is handy for people with sensitive skin
Product feels great, seamless, natural and sometimes i forget i'm wearing it. it's superlight weight, super slim and attaches to my body really well. it's not painful or irritating.
It feels really light. It is really sticky when you put the pad on to stick it to your back. Once it’s on you genuinely do forget it’s there until it vibrates. Sometimes I have to touch it to check it’s there if I’ve kept my posture and haven’t felt it vibrate! It’s easy to peel off and store in the little container it comes in.
-
I wear it on the necklace, I wouldn’t want to stick it to myself.
It felt good. Very lightweight and comfortable and the sticky part didn’t leave any on the skin so that was really nice
Another con is that the adhesive was really sticky so it never fell off
Feels super. Light weight and barely notice when using adhesive. Necklace needed design improvements.
What do you think of the aesthetic look of the product? (Do you like it? Do you feel self-conscious? Etc)
It is very small and discreet, and is practically invisible under my work clothes. But because I work in healthcare and often go between standing, walking and sitting down, I often forget I have it on.
Love the look, i do not feel self-conscious about it at all. Would have liked more color options.
I like it. It looks a bit grubby now though. An off white colour 😅 if they had a black colour I probably would have chosen that as white does stand out if I wear a vest top. People at work wondered what it was at first! But on a plus side you then talk about it and people are interested in buying one for themselves.
It’s a nice size. Obviously the smaller the better but I guess if you use sticky pads you would need some surface area to stick it to you!
Again, really well designed. that’s the main reason I got one.
-
I liked the aesthetic of it. I didn’t feel self conscious at all. It was mostly under a shirt anyway
I live in FL. It’s hot here. I didn’t wear it during tank top season or when it’s especially hot and humid but I’m certain it would fall off in no time. When it did fall off, I wasn’t always aware. (Bummer bc there was no alert on app). I wouldn’t be self-conscious with just the device on my back (not that I could wear it now anyway) but def with the ugly ugly necklace.
What would you change about the product to improve it?
I wouldn't change anything as i feel this product could be perfect for some, it just wasn't right for me.
Training mode only goes up to "10 minutes" so i would like to have an option where you can set the time length for training mode.
Stop the sticky bit at the top pulling my hair out! 🤣😅 I’ve tried sticking the pad lower on the device but that doesn’t help or make a difference.Make the sticky pads still stick if you’re sweating. I would love to wear it riding without the worry of loosing it in the arena!I think the price point is fair.
Add more features to the app. Create more of an active online community of wearers. Maybe include more benefits to the device in terms of getting wearers more active. Instead of just monitoring correct posture, which really is a tilt application, get wearers off their seats and moving around. Regular low intensive movement really is a good way to start improving bad posture habits.
The cost? I wouldn’t pay £80+ for it new & waited for an ebay bargain, new at £45
I would change that the product should come with instruction on what a persons posture should really look like, cause most people probably don’t know. Other than that I don’t think I would change anything
it’s already quite small but perhaps it could be thinner. The replaceable adhesive stronger/sweatproof.
Do you wear it every day? If not, why?
-
I wear it on workdays and sometimes on weekends. When i don't wear it, it's because i'm planning to not do anything and just lay down.
When I first bought it I wore it Monday to Friday as I’m too active at the weekends with the horse it doesn’t stay on and I don’t want to lose it! I ran out of sticky pads around December time and bought some more in Feb but still haven’t incorporated sticking it to me as part of my routine. It’s just me being lazy and I really do need to start wearing it! Maybe this will be the kick start I need! I told everyone about it when I first bought it, I think the price point did put people off though as they didn’t really really want it or need it so it’s a lot to part with and buy if you’re not fully committed to helping improve your posture.
-
No, it needs the app on your phone to work so only use it on specific occasions
I don’t wear it everyday, because I can’t get it to connect 😬 I only wore it for a long period of sitting at my desk
I don’t wear it every day. I haven’t worn it in weeks. I was unable to find a posture range that worked w my active lifestyle. If I had a desk job ... sure I’d wear it.
If there is any other information you can provide
I heard of the product on social media via an Instragram ad. I read several reviews and watched several youtube reviews and comment sections before I bought the product. I actually bought it via a retailer through Best Buy because it offered pick up at the store.
Love the look of the app, it’s so sophisticated and easy to use/navigate. Love that there are lots of different settings to fiddle around with.
I like that is got an app! That it connects via Bluetooth.
-
I did also like to wear it for driving for a long period of time, that was helpful! Other than that I did really like the product. I just think it’s one of those things you might do for a while and get bored of it for some people! If there were ways it was more interactive on the app or more fun somehow that might keep people interested for longer? Idk 😂
Perhaps different colors. Upright only came in white. Thinner would be better. Gentler haptics. My husband found the lowest haptic too disruptive.
