Pathophysiology
The pathophysiology of COPD is a lung disease that makes breathing difficult. It decreases the ability to take oxygen and distribute it to the organs in the bloodstream. The diseases that are related to COPD are emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and refractory asthma. COPD decreases the lung function by damaging the airway and also air sacs in the lungs. It affects the bronchioles. People with COPD don’t have much air flowing in and out of the airways. Several physical problems in the lungs can lead to the air sacs and airway losing their elasticity. The walls between the air sacs can become damaged. Or inflamed and thickened. Also it produces more mucus causing them to clog which makes it so hard to breath.
