If yes, what were the reasons for that change?

Green Grounds is an environmental advocacy group that addressed sustainable development at UVA. As project coordinator for Green Grounds, I was in charge of planning projects to introduce ways to minimize energy consumption around the University. Students United is a student led activist group at UVA whose missions is to take action for a more democratic, accessible, and inclusive University. I did not hold any leadership positions, but I was a member from spring 2017 through spring 2018.
For Green Grounds, as someone who is a healthcare professional, my primary motivation for being an environmentalist are the effects a poor environment has on people's health. Being able to live in a clean sustainable world is a basic human right, and no one should have to suffer or sacrifice their health because un-environmental options are more affordable to institutions. For Students United, I was invited by one of my friends who was a part of the organization. I have always been someone politically conscious and am also an Asian American minority, so I was drawn to what they stood for as activists against racial and social injustice.
I was present at the counter protests on Saturday morning. The night before the Unite the Right rally on Saturday, we had heard that a group of white supremacists were going to march through grounds. A group from Students United decided to form a counter protest by linking arms around the Jefferson statues at the Rotunda. I was not present, but I knew many of the people that were and heard horrible stories about what happened. So the next day, those of us that werent there the night before decided to go to the downtown mall to be a part of the counter protest. Experiencing that as a young non-white woman was terrifying. The alt right was armed and shouted racial slurs, and the police did nothing to stop them until it had already gone on for hours.
It was the right thing to do. As part of Students United, I felt like we had a duty to stand up to racism and violence against minorities.
Yes, Students United became much more active after those events. We were recognized on social media and the news, and heading into the new school year our membership grew.
I think many of the students at UVA were motivated to do something after something tragic and historic took place so close to home.
No. I was not a part of the organization my last year of school. I found little time to be a part of their activities as I was getting ready to study and apply to medical schools. With how active and busy the organization had become, it was very time consuming to be a part of all their fundraising and advocacy events.

Our primary philanthropy is Be the Match Bone Marrow Drive. As an Asian-American interest fraternity, we seek to raise awareness among the asian community and encourage more asians to become donors.
As everyone says, to be a part of something bigger than yourself and work towards common causes that we all believe in.
We had heard through social media and word of mouth what was going on that night, but did not know the full details. We saw the torch lights on the lawn from our house and were told by some of the fraternity brothers to stay in that night for our own safety. A group of us went to the counter protests in the morning. The buses were shut down and all the stores and restaurants were closed. The Unite the Right rally was on one side of the street while the counter protesters were on the other side. We had arrived around 9 am and decided to leave by about 10:30 when it looked like it could potentially turn violent.
I think we all had our different reasons for wanting to go. For me it was mostly curiosity. There was also a slight sense of anger and wanting to represent Lambdas as fighting against white supremacy.

As an alumni, I don't actively do much for Lambdas anymore unless invited to career panels or alumni events.
