Lecture 4 (Climatic Zones in the Tropics)
To study climate in the Tropics, we will look at temperature and rainfall mainly using climographs
The Koppen-Geiger system is the most widely used climatic classification system -> Focused on the A and B climates for the syllabus
A climates occupy within 15-20 degrees N and S latitudes. They are the truly winterless climates with uniformly high temperatures throughout the year due to their near-equatorial location. They are also among the wettest in the world with high amount of rainfall.
B climates are widespread in the subtropics between 25-30 degrees N and S latitudes. They are characterised with low precipitation and high temperature. Mostly found along the western coast of continents or located further inland.
