Identifying and Supporting Struggling Students - Coggle Diagram
Identifying and Supporting Struggling Students
Devote individual attention and time to students in class
Discuss behaviour issues individually with student, and with the class separately
Perform regular formative assessment to model student's progress, and compare with expected progress
Review material individually with student
If work continues to be subpar, or the student continues to struggle, notify head of school and counselor
Involve parents in the progress of the student, and construct an individual learning plan for the student, identifying areas of weakness, adjusting the teaching approach as necessary, the assistive technology, and suggesting outside professional opinion
Remove student from class if the professional opinion suggests so, with agreement from the parents
In severe cases of difficulty, suggest an in-school assistant, a specialized school that may be more suited, or repeating the school year in cases of academic failure
Continue to involve the student in the communal class, making adjustments as recommended and agreed with the parents and professional opinion
Student-led
Technologically adjusted (e.g. greater emphasis on video materials; at-home software assignments; interactive whiteboards and handheld laptops...)
Frequent progress reports communicated to outside professionals, parents, counselor and superiors
Student is progressing fine
