Poder y Mando
Establishment of Power and Command
Power is the ability to exert influence, that is, the ability to change the activities or behavior of people or teams. Power can be present in any relationship.
Sources of Power
Power of reward: Power derived from the fact that a person, called the influencer, has the ability to reward another person called the influenced, for following orders, which may be tacit or implicit.
Coercive power: The negative side of the reward power, which is based on the ability of the influencer to sanction the influenced.
Legitimate Power: The power that exists when a subordinate or influenced recognizes that the influencer has the right or the ability to exercise influence, within certain limits, also known as formal authority.
Expert Power: Power that is based on the idea or concept that the influencer has specific knowledge or relevant experience that the influenced does not have.
Reference Power: Power that is based on the desire of the influenced to be like the influencer or to identify with him.
Influential Aspects in Dynamics
How to distribute formal authority within the organization structure is a fundamental decision to organize. It is clear that managers are able to take care of everything that has to be done to implement an organization's strategic plan. Thus, they decide to decide how much authority to delegate to the lower-ranking managers or to whom they are managers.
Maintenance of Power and Command
A form of power that is often used in a broader sense to refer to a person's ability to exercise power as a result of qualities such as knowledge or office, for example a judge. Specifically, formal authority is legitimate power. When someone is said to be an authority in a certain field, it is required that the person knows a lot about the subject and therefore has expert power.
Delegation
How formal authority will be distributed within organizational structures is a key decision to organize. Delegating is assigning to another person the formal authority (legitimate power) the responsibility to carry out specific activities. Managers must delegate authority to employees so that the organization can personally perform and fully supervise everything that happens in the organization.
Formal Authority Base
Classical Position: The position of the authority says that the authority has its origin at a very high level and, from there, it passes downward, lawfully, from one level to another.
Position of Acceptance: The other perspective of the origin of formal authority, the position of acceptance, considers that the basis of authority is in the influenced and not in the influential
Types of Authority
Authority Staff: The authority of the teams of people who offer advice and services to line managers.
Functional Authority: The authority of members of staff departments to control the activities of other departments based on their relationship with specific staff people.
