- - - - The subway and transit is incredibly advanced and organized, getting eight million people to work everyday with almost no delays or mistakes at all.
      - There is almost no poverty or homelessness and the crime rates are extremely low, with almost no gun crime at all.
      - Despite how advanced and progressive it is, everything is the same. They have destroyed their entire heritage to make way for uniform buildings that are cold and meaningless. It's almost straight out of a dystopian novel, with no character or history or originality in any way. It is unfriendly, unwelcoming, abnormal.
        
        Because of how cold, robotic, and bleak the city is, there is a small group of people called hikimori, who are recluses. They stay inside their homes and rarely go out because the city is so depressing and makes them miserable. They feel small and insignificant in this robotic system. There is no humanity at all.
        
        People are so lonely and alienated that there is a business of people who rent themselves out. Not as prostitutes but just as companions, as friends, as somebody to spend time with and make you feel appreciated and significant, to make you feel human.
        
        This city has created a culture of alienation, depression, uniformity, coldness, and loneliness.
    - - The people and government are desperately trying to fit everything and everyone in. There are courts and driving schools on top of buildings because there is so little room.
      - Because of the lack of any extra space, property prices and housing are exorbitantly priced, unaffordable for the majority of the population
        
        To fix these housing issues, there are buildings being built to fit everyone, but the apartments are so tiny you barely have space to walk. They are like ridiculously tiny boxes made of glass and steel. They are bleak and depressing.
  - - - Many of these people, estimated four million, live in poverty in slums
        
        Many of the houses are made from salvaged or cheap materials such as plasterboard and discarded wood and are built by the families
        
        Incredibly crowded, with lots of people living in one house and sharing facilities, sleeping quarters, baths, etc
        
        They look after each other, strong mutual obligation and family ties, protecting and caring about other people's wellbeing, because they are all in the same boat and they are in it together
      - The city is organized but highly divided based on class and wealth
        
        the lower class live in poverty, homes infested with rats, cockroaches, mosquitoes, etc,
        
        Wealthier neighbourhoods have better quality roads and more greenery
      - People move to Dhaka from the countryside for a variety of reasons, including natural disasters like floods
  - - - Extremely high crime rate with an average of three murders a week, 500 kidnappings every month.

    - - This is positive and negative, meaning a high crime rate (see above) but also a culture of excitement and fun, inclusivity, music, pride, love, friendship, openness, individuality, food, and above all, happiness.
        
        The people are welcoming and friendly, the city dominated by street culture, with music, food, and dance everywhere
  - - - It is being said that Shanghai is the next capital of the world
      - 30 years ago, there were only 121 buildings over eight storeys. Now, there are more than ten thousand,
        
        There is little or no heritage or conservation efforts. All the old buildings are demolished to make way for the new and the impressive. Residents are ordered to relocate before their houses are knocked down to make way for fancy glass and steel skyscrapers. Kicked out of their homes and neighbourhoods.
        
        Very nuanced and complicated issue. This development has many positives and negatives.
        
        On one hand, all this heritage is being destroyed and people forced out of their homes, out of everything they have ever known, everything they grew up with.
        
        On the other hand, hundreds of thousands of new homes are being built on the edges of the city to provide housing for the forcibly relocated. These new homes are modern and new, much bigger than the previous ones that were demolished. They have running water and toilets and are close to the metro. For many, it is the best thing to ever happen to them.
      - Skyscrapers are symbols of growth and development, an unofficial representative of the megacity, drawing people to them, promising wealth and opportunity
