acquired immune response
contains lymphocytes, which only go after the specific things that they already know about
there are two different types; the T cells (forms in bone marrow, migrate and mature in the thymus gland), and the B cells (originate and mature in the bone marrow)

two different types of acquired immunity; the cell mediated response (for once the cells have already been infected), and the humoral response (when the infection is only in the body's fluid)
innate immunty
responds to all pathogens the same way, whether having dealt with them before or not

does not care what it's killing, only job is to keep all enemies out
phagocytes, a type of leukocyte is specific to this type of immune system
chases down invading cells, grabs them, and completely engulfs them

dendritic cells kill pathogens on the outside, and carry information back into the body, passing intelligence to the acquired immune system
second line of defense

made up of mast cells, which search for suspicious objects
releases histamine if found, which makes blood vessels more pernmeable, allowing fluid in (causing inflammation) as well as white blood cells
