STAGES OF REPRODUCTION
FERTILISTION
Takes places inside the female reproductive system. Every ejaculation releases between 300 and 400 million sperm, but only one of them will fertilise the ovim. Sperm can oly live for up to five days after ejaculation, and the ovum con only survive 48 hours.
When sperm surrounded the ovum, they secrete certain substances that separate its cells. Next, after both gametes recognise each other, sperm join in the ovum. Both gametes must identify each other. If the gametes belong to differnt species, the process will not take place
When the first spermpenetrates the ovum´s membranes, the nuclei of gametes fuse. It is then that the zygote forms. Once fertilised, the ovum is enveloped by a protective cover that stops other sperm from coming in.
GESTATION
After fertilisation, the zygote slowly progresses through the fallopian tubes. After seven days it arrives at the uterus and joins with the endometrium. This process, known as nesting, indicates the beginning of gestation.
Gestation refers to the time that occurs between fertilistion and birth. It last approximately 280 days. One cell transform into a human being.
During the first weeks, the cell mass that develops in the uterus isreferred to as the embryo. When the embryo develops a human shape it is known as the fetus.

GAMETOGENESIS
The formationof ova is known as oogenesis and the formation of spermatozoidsn as known as spermatogenesis
-
OVARIAN CYCLE
Oogenesis occurs regularly in womwn from puberty onwards. It takes place aproximately every 28 days. Its purpose each time is the formation, maduration and release of an ovum.
