Topic 9 Respiration
Anaerobic
Realising energy without oxygen
Animals: Glucose and lattice acid (+energy)
Energy is realised faster
Good for short bursts of energy
In other organisms
Bacteria: Glucose and lattice acid
Used to make yougurts
Aerobic respiration
realising energy with oxygen
Glucose + oxygen and carbon dioxide + water (ENERGY)
Exothermic reaction
Use it for Metabolism
Or transfer as a thermal energy to our surrouding
Realse of energy
Why do we need to
Muscle contraction
skeletal muscles
Heart
Diaphram
Active transport
Moving substances from high to low concentration
Metabolism ( chemical reactions)
Digestions
Exercise
Muscles are contracting harder and faster this need more energy
Heart rate increases
Pumps more blood with o2 and glucose to muscle cells.
Breathing rate increases
Oxygen into the lungs faster so it can diffuse into the blood
Also helps to remove co2
Glycogen is broken down into glucose for respiration
Glycogen is stored in the muscles and liver
Oxygen debt is the amount of oxygen needed to break down lattice acid
The lattice acid goes to the liver
Then the liver changes it into glucose
Then transfer it into glycogen
Or
Use it for aerobic resperation
To repay oxygen debt to keep a high HR and BR
