Heart - restrictive cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, angina
Vascular - purpura, especially periorbital
-
-
- Proliferation of plasma cell clone
- Amyloidogenic monoclonal immunoglobulins
- Fibrillar light chain deposition
- Organ failure
- Death
Secondary Amyloidosis
May present with proteinuria, nephrotic syndrome or hepatosplenomegaly
-
It affects kidneys, liver and spleen
-
Amyloid is derived from serum amyloidosis, reflecting chronic inflammation in RA, UC/Crohn's, Mediterranean fever
-
Diagnosis
Made with biopsy of affected tissue, and positive Congo Red staining with apple-green birefringence under polarised light microscopy
