Pathophysiology
The two factors that determine BP are cardiac output and peripheral vascular resistance. Resistance to blood flow is determined by blood viscosity and the diameter of the blood vessels. When blood vessels narrow, peripheral vascular resistance increases causing blood pressure to raise.
