How will I develop literacy skills and develop engagement in K-6 learners…

- - - - Reader's Workshop! This includes an opportunity for students to meet with one another to talk about what they are learning, but also independently with you. This allows for individualized, focused instruction that can help you understand where they are at, but also expand their literacy skills.
      - Whole group instruction, reading workshop, shared reading, interactive read aloud, writing workshop, guided writing, work study workshop, and book clubs

- - - - Allow students options when doing reading projects. Don't force them to always do a book report. There are plenty of fun alternative. Plus, sometimes allowing students to make their own project created even more motivation!
- - - - Print! Print! Print! Spend time teaching students about print and allowing them to discover things about words, reading, and writing.
        
        Make sure to keep in mind your students! Don't diminish their first language or vernacular. Use it to help build your classroom community and remind students that there's nothing wrong with it!
