system of ongoing, systematic, criteria based evaluation of drug to ensure meds appropriately used by PtX
also knowns as DUE, MUE, PUM

Identify/determine the optimal use
evaluate w/ the other drug within same class
determine the parameter needed to be monitored
Measure actual use
collect data from prescription, medical records and electronic claim forms.
build an algorithm to identify all members who fit the criteria
Evaluate
set the acceptable threshold
compare new drug data w/ other drugs
Intervene
implement the correction steps
related to prescribing pattern, medication misadventures, guility of drus therapy and econmic consideration
Evaluate DUR program

assess the effectiveness of DUR program
