when a county expand its influence and its power as a huge empire. france and britan had large worldwide empires and where very wealthy countries. on the other hand countries like russia and germany wanted to form their own empire this all resulted in competition and conflict with many countries worldwide
Germany made alliances with austria hungary and italy in 1881 they agreed to protect eachother if one was to be attacked by france after that italy secretly made a allience with france stating that italy would not aside with germany this lead germany to make alliance with france and russia in 1892 in 1904 britan and france signed a agreement they formed the triple enlenle in 1907 germany felt threated in its existance and its power in the region by the powerful alliance

trench warefare is fighting where both side built deep fences as a defence against each other soldiers dug tenches miles long and fought eachother from oposite trenches this caused alot of casualties in the end of 1914 in WWI both sides bulid trenches from north sea and throughout the region and france this resulted in neither of the sides to gain ground for 3 and a half years a stalemale is the deadlock on the western frount during WWI
major battles schileffen plan this plan consisted of sending a small portion of german army to the russia/german frount to hold the russians this plan didnt work russia monilized faster battle of somme was between the french and british hope to win the battle so that the airman would remove troops from verdun area in the end britain lost 360000 men battle of verdun this battle took place in 1916 on the hills north of verdun surmense this battle was the longest bloodiest WWI battle it resulted in over 360000 french soldiers and 340000 german soldiers dead
