The Meaning of Life
Viktor Frankl
Lesson 1
*Find meaning in suffering and in your life
“In some way, suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning.”
A great way to live successfully is finding meaning, a reason to fight day after day
Lesson 4
*Take responsibility
"Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfil the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual".
the issue is not that we expect from life, but to take responsibility and understand that it is life itself that expects us to do something, take initiative
Lesson 3
"We are way stronger than we give ourselves credit for. You can always push harder and go further. Limits of Human Survival"
It is impossible to determine the limit of the possibilities of the human being, we simply achieve greater tolerance to suffering every day
*We are more resilient than we realize
Lesson 2
*You have a choice
"Between stimulus and response is a gap and in that gap is the ability to choose how you respond to any given situation"
The way we act does not depend on the situation as such, but on the way we see things, the way we act truly determines who we are
Lesson 7
*Love
"I grasped the meaning of the greatest secret that human poetry and human thought and belief have to impart: The salvation of man is through love and in love".
No matter how much suffering a man has suffered or how much pain he has suffered, there will always be hope for him as long as he has a clear conception of love
Lesson 5
Paradoxical intention
"The neurotic who learns to laugh at himself may be the way to self-management, perhaps to cure"
a very good way to approach a fear is learning to laugh at it, this with a paradoxical intention, when this is achieved, this fear will not present the same symptoms as before without being interpreted in a cheerful way
Lesson 9
*Cherish your memories
"The pessimist resembles a man who observes with fear and sadness that his wall calendar, from which he daily tears a sheet, grows thinner with each passing day. On the other hand, the person who attacks the problems of life actively is like a man who removes each successive leaf from his calendar and files it neatly and carefully away with its predecessors, after first having jotted down a few diary notes on the back"
Everything is relative It does not matter the way things are but the way we see them, how we act to solve them
Lesson 8
*Happiness and success cannot be pursued
"Don't aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself".
The more we set a goal, the more possibilities we will fail for this, we must let things flow, do things not expecting a reward but because we want and can do it without interest
Lesson 10
*The true meaning of life
I wish to stress that the true meaning of life is to be discovered in the world rather than within man or his own psyche, as though it were a closed system. I have termed this constitutive characteristic “the self-transcendence of human existence.”
Lesson 6
*Everybody’s why is different
"Each man's destiny is different and unique and cannot be compared. Don't compare yourself to anyone else".
We cannot compare ourselves with others, each man is the measure of everything, everyone is different, trying to compare himself with another man would lose the same sense of looking for himself and a reason to live
Reflexion-Thought
My reflection on the theme was above all The power of love because I think that it is through this town this capacity that people have to find the way to find the reason to live because with this thread of Hope What is love We we can get to a level beyond that, it also seems very important to me to name the fact of responsibility, because it is clear that we all have an opinion about many things, but at the moment that we have or acquire the responsibility to see things in a certain way that's when we will find our way
