Extraction of Metals
Brine

-
-
-
Brine a solution of sodium chloride (NaCl) and water . the process of electrolysis involves using an electric current to make new chemicals.
Extraction of Iron
the iron ore is heated with coke and limestone to make sure the solid mixes well. when blast of hot air are sent in through holes at the bottom of the furnace the carbon burns and molten iron is produced. reduction of Iron(III) oxide by carbon monoxide.
-
1) the furnace will be stored with the "charge", which contains Iron ore, Coke(carbon made from coal) and limestone (Calcium carbonate).
-
Forms a molten layer of slag on top of the iron and is used by builders/ road makers after it is solidified
-
Extraction of Aluminium
2) when the Aluminuim oxide is purified, it will be dissolved in molten cryolite (NO3AlF6), which is used to decrease the temperature of the electrolytic cell.
-
1) Bauxite is treated with sodium hydroxide to gain pure aluminuim oxide(alumina). The aluminium oxide that was produced is sent to the place for electrolysis.
-
-
whereas oxygen ions will be attracted to the Anode(+) to forma a oxygen gas and reacts with carbon to form CO
Extraction of Zinc
metal oxide is heated in a blast furnace with coke, carbon reduces oxide to the metal
-
-
1) Roasting (heating in presence of air) solifide ore is heated very strongly converting into metal oxide:-
-
Rust
-
Rust is a red-brown powder consisting of hydrated iron oxide. it is formed by the redox reaction of iron and oxygen in the presence of water or air molecule.
