GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Fascioliasis is a parasitic infection known as fluke
Fasciola hepatica
Common liver fluke or sheep liver fluke
Fasciola gigantica
May infecting human
causes liver condemnation
Reduction in milk and meat yield
Lymnaea as intermediate host in the water plant
cattle, sheep, goat and human as definitive host
CONTROL & PREVENTION
No vaccine to protect against Fasciola infection
Avoid animal grazing watercress or other water plants
Fecal egg count to monitor efficacy of Triclabendazole
Good management of livestock

PATHOGENESIS OF CHRONIC LIVER FLUKE
Moderate number of metacercaria ingested over a longer period of time
Immature larvae penetrate the lumen
Penetrate into peritoneal cavity
Tunnel through liver capsule
Migrate to bile duct
Chronic: Mature to adult and laying eggs
Feeds on bile duct wall cause hemorrhage and blood loss

CAUSES
Grazing animals are infested through ingestion of infected grass
Ingestion of fresh water plants with metacercaria or drinking water with floating metacercaria
