IUD

Hormonal Contraceptives
the hormones inhibit the natural cycle hormones to prevent pregnancy. side effects include lighter periods, nausea, headaches, weigh gain, mood changes, decreased libido, breast tenderness.
Tubal Ligation
blocks fallopian tubes to prevent fertilization. side effects include pain after procedure and increased risk of ectopic pregnancy
Vasectomy
cuts off pathway for sperm to travel. side effects include blood in semen, pain and swelling
They are older so they are probably less fertile
They already have kids and are probably looking for something more permanent
BEST OPTIONS
vasectomy, this way the mom doesn't have to worry about contraceptive and if by any chance they decide to have kid's it's reversible
tubal ligation, neither has to worry about using other contraceptives
copper IUD, this way she doesn't have to go through surgery and once she reaches menopause it can be taken out
WORST OPTIONS
condoms, while effective there is a higher risk of conception
removal of ovaries, she would have issues with hormone balances
hormonal contraceptives, as mentioned by the patient she has concerns for long term issues
